Rick James delivers provocative funk
The second album by the R&B group Mary Jane Girls, produced by producer Rick James, was heavily influenced by his studio funk sound.
The album is dominated by a heavy, bouncy synth bass and a hard rhythm machine beat. Four female vocalists deliver provocative lyrics in relay style, creating a unique atmosphere. "In My House" combines funk with pop hooks, sweeping dance floors and R&B charts. Throughout the album, calculated gaps and relentlessly repetitive basslines keep listeners moving.
