1970年6月リリース、初期ヘヴィ・メタルの胎動を刻んだ記念碑。
「Gypsy」の壮麗なオルガンとパワーコードの融合は、バンドの定番サウンドの礎を築いた。
リリース当初は批評家から冷ややかな評価を受けたが、それは逆説的にも後のヘヴィ・メタルというジャンルを形作った“夜明けの叫び”として評価を高める要因となった。プログレッシブな展開とメタリックな重厚感が交差する本作は、今なお“初期ヘヴィ・シーンの原点”として語られる名盤である。
