全英アルバムチャートでは3週連続1位、全米Billboard 200でも7位を獲得。母体であるGenesisよりも商業的に成功し、その後のソロキャリアの幕開けとなった本作。4曲目『The Roof is Leaking／天を仰いで』、11曲目『If Leaving Me Is Easy／甘い囁き』にはギターでEric Claptonが参加。
