『Future Shock』は、ディープ・パープルの元ボーカリスト、イアン・ギランが率いるソロプロジェクトGillanの1981年作。タイトルの通り、“未来の衝撃”をテーマに据えた本作は、ヘヴィなギター・リフとシンセサイザーを交えた近未来的なサウンドが融合し、ギランのシャウト気味のヴォーカルが冴えわたるエネルギッシュなロック・アルバムに仕上がっている。リリックには風刺や諷刺も込められ、当時の社会やテクノロジーに対する複雑な視点がにじむ。単なるハードロックにとどまらず、表現としてのロックの可能性を追求した意欲作だ
