The memorable debut album from Anne Briggs, a British folk singer who had a profound influence on Bert Jansch and Jimmy Page, was released in 1971! This timeless album will captivate you with its rare beauty, expressiveness, and power.
This re-release includes four additional previously unreleased recordings from the newly discovered "lost tapes"!
Anne Briggs' eponymous debut album is widely regarded as a landmark in any folk collection. Originally released on Topic Records in 1971, it features Briggs' signature songs, including "Blackwater Slide," which she famously taught Bert Jansch (for his album Self-Portrait (Jack Orion)), and "Go Your Way," a song she co-wrote with Jansch. In 2023, "lost tapes" containing four previously unreleased recordings from the album sessions were rediscovered in the Topic vaults. This reissue features these four additional tracks! Anne Briggs never sought commercial success or widespread recognition. However, she was a major influence in the British folk revival, inspiring the songs and music of A.L. Lloyd, Bert Jansch, Jimmy Page, Sandy Denny, and Richard Thompson, among others.
