This is a collection of Fauré's works, recorded by the Orchestre de Paris under the baton of Serge Baudot, and includes the suite "Pelléas et Mélisande," Op. 80, excerpts from incidental music to plays; the suite "Dolly," Op. 56, a piano duet piece arranged for orchestra by Henri Rabaud; and the suite "Masks and Bergamasks," Op. 112.
"Pelléas et Mélisande" utilizes the legato of the strings and the soft tones of the woodwinds to create a natural flow from the quiet scenes that accompany the story to the climax. "Dolly" highlights the unique color of the orchestral version arranged by Labaud, and by expanding familiar melodies such as "Lullaby" to the orchestra, it achieves a scale suitable for a hall while maintaining the intimacy of the original. "Masques et Bergamasques" continues with a movement accompanied by a dance-like rhythm, allowing you to experience the refined melodies and light strokes of Fauré's late work on a single disc.
