This was Joe Henderson's debut album released by Blue Note, and it included songs that would later become standards, such as "Blue Bossa" and "Recorda Me," and together with Kenny Dorham and McCoy Tyner, it was a work that showed the direction of a new generation of hard bop.
Joe Henderson's tenor saxophone rises with a clear tone from the opening, followed by a striking interplay with the trumpet. "Blue Bossa" in particular is known as a masterpiece, blending bossa nova rhythms with hard bop idioms, its soft melody brimming with the magic of improvisation.
