A dancehall piece that captures the energy of the times with Junior Reid's high-pitched voice and digital beats.
Prince Jammy's hard digital beats are layered with Junior Reid's powerful vocals, and although it's a minimalist track, it conveys the heat and atmosphere of 80s dancehall.
The title track, "Boom Shack A Lack," features a linear progression of programmed drums and a thick synth bass, over which Junior Reid's high-pitched voice repeats a refrain, creating a powerful momentum. "Cross Over The Border" and "Row Your Boat" have a slight sway in the rhythm, bringing the vocal phrases to the forefront and creating a track that exudes melodic flair even in dancehall music. "Give Thanks" and "Time" have strong messages, and even though they share the same sound, it's easy to see the difference in expression. The overall structure is simple, but the excellent compatibility between the voice and the beat keeps the album engaging until the very end.
