鋭いトランペットが緊張を走らせ、第2期クインテットの緊密なアンサンブルが多層的な響きを生む。ウェイン・ショーターの楽曲を軸に、ハービー・ハンコックの鍵盤とトニー・ウィリアムスのドラミングが高次元で交錯する。「Water Babies」では叙情と自由な即興が並び立ち、B面ではエレクトリック・ピアノ導入により後の『In A Silent Way』へ通じる探究が示される。未発表集の枠を超えた重要作。
