An urban jazz vocalist with solid singing skills
This album features Japanese jazz vocalist Chikako Shiraki. Backed by some of Japan's leading jazz musicians, Isao Suzuki (bass) and Kunihiko Kanno (piano), the album is comprised primarily of standard numbers.
Over a stable rhythm section, Shiraki's vocals unfurl as she sings standard songs. Her singing does not rely on technical scat or falsetto, but instead focuses on carefully listening to the melody and words. Suzuki Isao's bass sometimes sings melodically and sometimes provides solid rhythmic support, creating a close dialogue with the vocals. The piano also has a refined sound, and the album is an urban, easy-to-listen-to jazz vocal piece that also incorporates the sensibilities of AOR and fusion from the time.
