A record of a huge live concert held in Hawaii in response to a request for a performance from Japan.
In this concert, Elvis focused on ballads and covered songs, rather than rock songs. This legendary concert was held at the International Center in Honolulu and was the first live music concert to be broadcast simultaneously around the world via satellite at the time. The number of viewers is said to be between 1 and 1.5 billion, and in Japan, the 19:00 broadcast achieved a viewership rate of nearly 40%.
It was held as a charity event for the cancer fund of Hawaiian singer Qui Lee, who wrote Elvis's "I'll Remember You." There was no set price for tickets, and tickets could be purchased at any price. One theory is that the reason Elvis never performed outside of the U.S. or Canada was that his manager, Colonel Parker, did not have permanent residency in the U.S. and therefore there was a risk that he would not be able to re-enter the country.
