The hero of the great Furtwängler
This performance includes all four movements, from the second movement of the funeral march to the final movement in variation form.
The symphony opens with solemn string chords, and the theme of the first movement, Allegro con brio, unfolds powerfully. Wilhelm Furtwängler draws out the rich sound of the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra's strings and winds, clearly depicting the grand structure of Symphony No. 3, "Eroica." In the second movement, the Funeral March, the low strings and winds layer nuanced melodies, and in the third movement, the Scherzo, a lively rhythm takes center stage. In the final movement, a variation theme is developed, highlighting the overall structure and driving force of the work—a 1953 recording.
