Roy Porter, who released two renowned rare groove classics in the 70s, "Inner Feelings" (blue vinyl) and "Jessica" (yellow vinyl), took on the new era with this 1994 album, Sound Machine!
The killer funk tracks "Panama" and "Party Time," which have been featured as sampling sources on numerous occasions, have been reconstructed by Roy Porter himself into a superb groove that is a must-listen!
Roy Porter, a longtime US jazz musician who served in Charlie Parker's band, recorded two rare groove classics with his band Sound Machine in the 1970s: "Inner Feelings" and "Jessica." In 1994, Porter reimagined these two albums with a new lineup, replacing some of the original members and adding "'94" to the name. "Generation" reimagines these two albums with a new lineup, bringing together the 1970s feel and groove of Sound Machine. Starting with "Generation" (A1), which retains the original 1970s feel and groove but features a rapper, "Mr. RP & Me (Vocal)" (A2), which incorporates poetry reading into the killer funk sample of "Panama," and "Slaughterhouse" (A5), which features rap on the famously sampled "Party Time." This album showcases a crossover of jazz and hip-hop that's unique to the 1990s. This historic masterpiece, which embodied the fusion of jazz and hip-hop that Robert Glasper and others have shown since the 2010s, is being revived in a new format!
