The diverse sound, incorporating horn and string arrangements, continues the tradition of the previous album, "Silk Degrees," while presenting a more mature soundscape, showcasing the deepening of Scaggs's vocals and playing. The intense performances of Jeff Porcaro, who played drums on this album, are particularly noteworthy, particularly on "Gimme the Goods."
