This work, centered around Richard Bona, fuses jazz and world music. The flexible bass lines and sophisticated arrangements create a sense of unity that transcends genres. The breadth of expression is impressive.
African bassist Richard Bona reconstructs his musical roots in a jazz context with this ambitious album. The rhythm is light, and the interplay between the horn section and keyboard creates a rich groove. His vocals are warm and, together with the bassline, form the core of the song. Gil Goldstein's arrangements are meticulous, with beautiful spatial placement of each instrument, and the depth of the music grows with each listen. This is an album rich in international flavor, seamlessly blending cultural backgrounds.
