The title track, "American Life," frankly questions consumer society and celebrity culture. The track combines acoustic guitar and electro beats, delivering introspective and ironic lyrics. Themes of the flip side of fame and self-exploration run throughout the album, and it can be seen as an attempt to dismantle and reconstruct herself as a pop star.
